Survey C01

As part of the Survey series Survey C01 is a mapping of textural light, depth, and space. The lattice pattern plots marker points across the canvas and draws connections between the contrasting textures of ethereal wool and precise stones. The survey series was developed from ideas raised in the "Topography from Afar" exhibition pieces. The exhibition explored Dr Jana Levin's research which asked "How can you measure the universe & What shape is the Universe?" Through these questions, we can look at the artwork and see past the appearance of the stones existing on top of the canvas - but in fact, each is connected to one another, linked through thread creating an equally important composition of thread and line parallel to the presented visible artwork.

Survey P01

As part of the Survey series, Survey PO01 uses deep textural tones of yellow, ochre, white, and blue-tinged grey to play with diffused light and shadow-scapes. The plotted survey points create a square within a square centered in the piece & drawing your attention to the contrasting materialistic qualities - the perfectly defined sphere beads juxtaposed with the soft wool/silk thread bursting forth. These elements are precise in their placement, yet both yarn and stone tonally sink into the background asking where the measurement starts and finishes. Correlation C01

Correlation CO1, of the Correlations series, explores a texturally tonal colour-scape rich with depth and movement. The canvas holds islands of elements - individual, yet united in their balance. The energy created by their proximity is an intentional tension. The individual nature of the elements in their composition also nod to the traditional textile practice of Sampler making. A practice taught to the artist through her maternal line through her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother... asking where and when in time this lineage of practice began and ponders the question, as a teacher, who has this practice been passed onto.
